Mozambique Women produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Zambia Women by 144 runs in the Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament 2026, delivering a one-sided display with both bat and ball.

Mozambique’s innings began with an early setback when Olga Mondlane was dismissed for 5 off 8 balls at 17/1 in 2.3 overs, with Mercy Nguni providing the breakthrough. However, the momentum soon shifted decisively through a commanding second-wicket partnership between Palmira Cuinica and Amelia Mundundo.

Cuinica and Mundundo Build Match-Defining Stand

The pair added 132 runs for the second wicket, taking control of the innings and putting Mozambique in a strong position. Cuinica led the effort with an unbeaten 80 off 70 deliveries, striking eight boundaries, while Mundundo contributed 45 off 41 balls with four fours.

After Mundundo’s dismissal at 149/2 in 16.3 overs, Mozambique continued to build on the platform. Cristina Magaia remained unbeaten on 4 off 9 balls, while Cuinica carried her bat through the innings. Extras also played a significant role, adding 40 runs — including 26 wides — as Mozambique posted 174/2 in 20 overs.

Zambia’s bowlers struggled to contain the scoring after the early breakthrough. Mercy Nguni finished with 1/19, while Mwansa Chabula picked up 1/29. Other bowlers, including Nancy Chabula and Mwake Kachingo, were unable to break the key partnership.

    Zambia Collapse Under Pressure

In reply, Zambia Women never found momentum as wickets fell regularly from the outset. Filo Chenda was dismissed for 1 in the opening over, followed by Rosemary Chanda for 5, leaving the side at 8/2 in 3.2 overs.

Nancy Chabula attempted to steady the innings but managed only 4 off 25 balls before being dismissed. The middle order struggled to contribute, with Mwake Kachingo, Mwansa Chabula, and Vivian Mwansa all falling, as Zambia slipped to 21/7.

Further dismissals of Esther Mulenga and Rithika Sriram for ducks underlined the pressure applied by Mozambique’s bowlers. Zambia eventually finished on 30/9 in their 20 overs.

    Mozambique Bowlers Seal Comprehensive Win

Mozambique’s bowling unit delivered a clinical performance to complete the victory. Regina Mazumba was the standout, returning figures of 4/6 in four overs. Cuinica added to her all-round display with 2/4 in three overs, while Angelica Salomao (1/8) and Rosalia Haiong (1/4) provided effective support.

Laura Chipanga and Olga Mondlane maintained control with economical spells, ensuring Zambia never recovered.

The comprehensive 144-run victory was built on a dominant partnership, disciplined bowling, and a complete team effort. Palmira Cuinica was named Player of the Match for her unbeaten 80 and two wickets, capping a standout performance.
