Young Delhi leg-spinner Medhavi Bidhuri has become one of the biggest talking points of the Women’s Delhi Premier League (WDPL) 2026, not only for her bowling but also for her now-famous “6-7” celebration that quickly went viral across social media.
The 20-year-old wrist-spinner grabbed attention after producing a remarkable spell with the ball in the first match in the tournament. She took 2 wickets for 24 runs in her four overs before becoming an overnight sensation and explaining the reason behind the celebration that has now even reached English county cricket.
The Story of the Viral Medhavi Bidhuri 6-7 Celebration
Bidhuri said that the unique moment was inspired by her younger sister and her new jersey number. Hoping to wear No. 12, she had to choose another number because 12 was already taken. Her sister suggested No. 67 while also encouraging her to perform the trending “6-7” celebration popular among Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
Explaining the gesture, Bidhuri said:
“I did that 6/7 because it’s trending and also because my sister asked to do this celebration as she is a gen Z and also asked me to keep my jersey number 67.”
What started as a personal celebration quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament.
Bowling Before Celebrations
While the celebration attracted attention, Bidhuri insisted her main focus remains disciplined bowling rather than wicket-taking.
She said:
“I was not mainly focusing on taking wickets. It was my motive to not go for boundaries. I wanted my maximum balls should be dots.”
That philosophy was reflected in her latest spell, where she returned figures of 2/24 from four overs by consistently bowling tight lines and limiting scoring opportunities.
WDPL Journey
Bidhuri represented South Delhi Superstarz during the first two editions of the Women’s Delhi Premier League.
Her performances include:
- 2024: 4 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of 6.85
- 2025: 5 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of 6.92
Ahead of the 2026 season, she switched to Central Delhi Queens, looking for a bigger role within the squad.
Hero of the 2025 Final
One of the biggest performances of Bidhuri’s young career came in the 2025 WDPL final.
Representing South Delhi Superstarz, she produced match-winning figures of 3/26 in three overs as her side defended 121 to beat Central Delhi Queens by just one run and lift the title.
Now wearing Central Delhi colours, she faces her former team as one of the Queens’ key bowlers.
Learning From the 2026 Opener
Despite the defeat in their opening match of WDPL 2026, Bidhuri remained positive about the team’s performance.
She said:
“It was really nice and there were many settlements in the team and we had the learnings that we don’t have to do in the next match.”
She also praised the bowling unit, adding:
“Our bowlers did really well and bowled in the right areas.”
Looking ahead, Bidhuri hopes the batting group plays with greater confidence.
“I want our batters who looked pretty underconfident today to play confidently.”
Chahal Copies the Celebration
Bidhuri’s “6-7” celebration has already travelled beyond India.
Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recreated the celebration while playing for Northamptonshire after dismissing Marcus Harris during the County Championship 2026.
Although the celebration has gained widespread attention, Bidhuri knows consistent performances with the ball will ultimately define her career.
Like Chahal, she relies heavily on leg-spin and an effective wrong’un, but at just 20 years old, she still has significant room to develop her craft.
A Rising Talent
As the Women’s Delhi Premier League continues, Medhavi Bidhuri is proving she offers far more than a memorable celebration.
Her ability to bowl economical spells, perform under pressure and deliver in big matches has already established her as one of Delhi’s most promising young leg-spinners.
The viral “6-7” celebration may have introduced her to a wider audience, but her bowling performances will determine just how far she can go in Indian women’s cricket.
