West Indies Women continued their impressive run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka Women at the Bristol County Ground. The Caribbean side produced a strong all-round performance to chase down a modest target of 99 runs with 23 balls to spare.

The match was largely shaped by captain Hayley Matthews, whose brilliant spell with the ball helped West Indies take control early. Her performance earned her the Player of the Match award and played a major role in another important win for her team.

West Indies vs Sri Lanka Women Review

Sri Lanka Women struggled from the beginning after being put under pressure by the West Indies bowling attack. Hayley Matthews led from the front, picking up three wickets for just 15 runs and removing key batters at crucial moments.

The early wickets left Sri Lanka in trouble and forced the middle order to rebuild the innings. Nilakshi de Silva tried to fight back with a useful 30 runs from 26 balls, while Kavisha Dilhari added 21 runs from 20 deliveries. However, regular wickets prevented Sri Lanka from building momentum.

The innings ended at 98 all out in 19.4 overs, leaving West Indies with a manageable target.

In reply, West Indies did lose a few wickets during the chase, but the result never looked in doubt. Experienced batter Stafanie Taylor remained calm and guided the innings with an unbeaten 27 runs from 25 balls. Hayley Matthews also contributed 17 runs at the top of the order before West Indies reached the target in 16.1 overs.

Key Moments West Indies Sri Lanka Match

Several important moments shaped the outcome of the contest.

The first major turning point came during the powerplay when Hayley Matthews dismantled Sri Lanka’s top order. Her opening spell immediately put the batting side under pressure and prevented them from making a strong start.

Another important moment was the partnership between Nilakshi de Silva and Kavisha Dilhari. Their efforts helped Sri Lanka recover briefly after losing early wickets. Without their contributions, the total could have been much lower.

The chase was then controlled by Stafanie Taylor. Her experience and composure ensured that West Indies avoided any late drama while chasing the target. Taylor’s unbeaten knock provided stability and helped her side cross the finish line comfortably.

Women’s T20 World Cup Talking Points

One of the biggest Women’s T20 World Cup talking points from this match was the outstanding leadership of Hayley Matthews. She delivered with both bat and ball and once again showed why she is one of the most valuable players in world cricket.

Another talking point was Sri Lanka’s batting struggles. The team has shown promise during the tournament, but the inability to handle early pressure proved costly in this game.

West Indies also strengthened their position in the competition with this victory. Their unbeaten run highlights the balance within the squad and their ability to perform under pressure.

Overall, this West Indies vs Sri Lanka women review showed the dominance of the Caribbean side. Strong bowling, smart batting, and excellent leadership helped West Indies secure another important win. The key moments of the West Indies vs Sri Lanka match once again underlined why the team is emerging as one of the strongest contenders in the tournament, making them a major focus in future Women’s T20 World Cup talking points.
