Uganda is set to stage an exciting multi-nation women’s tournament as the Easter Women’s T20 Cup takes place at Entebbe Cricket Oval from April 7 to 16. The competition will bring together teams from three continents, offering a crucial platform for development and international exposure.

The tournament will feature the hosts’ senior side, widely known as the Victoria Pearls, alongside a Uganda A team, and visiting sides from Nepal and the United States. While the matches will not carry official T20I status, they are expected to be highly competitive given their importance in preparation for upcoming international assignments.

A Key Step Towards Global Competitions

This series serves as a vital preparatory phase ahead of the ICC Women’s Challenge Trophy in Rwanda later in April. For all participating teams, the tournament provides an opportunity to fine-tune combinations, assess squad depth, and build momentum before stepping onto a bigger stage.

Cricket Uganda’s Head of High Performance and Pathways, Richard Okia, highlighted the importance of the event:

“These Easter Women’s T20 matches against USA and Nepal are a perfect stage to test our teams at a high level. For the Victoria Pearls, it’s about sharpening our edge and building winning momentum, while Uganda A Women gain invaluable exposure to fast-track their growth and confidence on the international stage.”

    Focus on Development and Depth

A standout feature of the tournament is the inclusion of Uganda A, reflecting a strong focus on long-term development. By allowing emerging players to compete directly against international opposition, Uganda aims to strengthen its talent pipeline and bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.

The format ensures ample game time for all teams, with double fixtures scheduled across matchdays. This structure maximizes on-field experience and provides players with opportunities to adapt to different match situations.

    Building Momentum at Home

With home conditions and strong local support, Uganda will look to assert dominance, while Nepal and the USA aim to test themselves in unfamiliar conditions. The Entebbe surface is expected to provide balanced conditions, making adaptability a key factor for success.

Beyond results, the Easter Women’s T20 Cup represents a significant step in the growth of women’s cricket, offering emerging players a chance to perform, learn, and prepare for the demands of international competition.
