Guyana Amazon Warriors claimed their first win of the WCPL 2026 season with a 25-run victory over Trinbago Knight Riders on a slow Barbados surface.

After being restricted to 119/8, the Amazon Warriors produced an outstanding bowling display to hold TKR to 94/9, handing the early tournament leaders their first defeat.

    Campbelle Leads Guyana Recovery

Guyana endured a difficult start with the bat but recovered through wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle.

Campbelle top-scored with 31 from 28 balls, while Erin Burns provided valuable support as the Warriors rebuilt after early wickets.

Trinbago’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings. Shikha Pandey was particularly economical with 2/9, while Deandra Dottin and Marizanne Kapp also claimed two wickets each.

Guyana eventually reached 119/8, a total that looked below par at the halfway stage.

Ismail and Connell Destroy TKR Top Order

The match changed completely during the TKR powerplay. Shabnim Ismail bowled with pace and accuracy, removing Yastika Bhatia, Laura Harris and Deandra Dottin as TKR collapsed to 22/5.

Shamilia Connell also struck twice to ensure the pressure never eased.

By the 11th over, TKR had slipped further to 43/6, leaving the chase in serious trouble.

    Penna’s Resistance Not Enough

Madeline Penna offered the only meaningful resistance, scoring 28 from 22 balls. However, the damage done by Guyana’s seamers was too severe to overcome. Spinners Sheneta Grimmond and Ashmini Munisar also chipped in with wickets to prevent any late recovery.

TKR finished on 94/9 from their 20 overs.

Ismail ended with outstanding figures of 3/21 from four overs, while Connell returned 2/12 and Grimmond claimed 2/19.

Ismail was named Player of the Match for her match-defining spell.

The result not only gave Guyana Amazon Warriors their first victory of the campaign but also opened up the WCPL 2026 title race, with all four teams still in contention.
