Australia Women completed a dominant 3-0 ODI series sweep against Bangladesh Women with an eight-wicket victory in the third and final match at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on October 14, 2026.

Megan Schutt produced an outstanding spell of swing bowling, claiming 4/16 as Bangladesh were dismissed for 172 in 49.5 overs. Australia then reached 175/2 in just 22.4 overs, with Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland scoring unbeaten half-centuries.

Schutt was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series after another impressive performance with the ball.

Megan Schutt Destroys Bangladesh’s Top Order

Australia elected to bowl first for the third consecutive match, and Schutt immediately justified the decision with a devastating opening spell. The experienced seamer removed Murshida Khatun in the third over before dismissing Sarmin Sultana and captain Nigar Sultana during the powerplay.

Bangladesh slipped to 18/3 after nine overs, marking the third successive match in which they lost three wickets inside the opening ten overs.

Schutt continued to trouble the batters with sharp movement in both directions. She later dismissed Sobhana Mostary, who had scored a century in the previous ODI, to complete her four-wicket haul.

Bowling her ten overs without interruption, Schutt finished with remarkable figures of 10-5-16-4.

Kim Garth provided excellent support from the other end, maintaining pressure with accurate swing bowling. Although she finished without a wicket, her deliveries repeatedly troubled Bangladesh’s batters.

The visitors faced 50 dot balls during the first ten overs as Australia’s opening bowlers controlled the early stages.

Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter Lead Recovery

Despite the early collapse, Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter attempted to rebuild Bangladesh’s innings. Sharmin began finding boundaries against Garth, but the scoring rate remained slow as Bangladesh reached only 45/4.

The pair adopted a cautious approach and added 54 runs for the fifth wicket from 98 deliveries.

Sharmin eventually reached her half-century before falling for 50 in the 34th over, caught at gully off Perry’s bowling.

Ashleigh Gardner then added another breakthrough, leaving Shorna responsible for guiding Bangladesh towards a competitive total. Shorna continued to resist Australia’s attack and benefited from a successful review in the 44th over after initially being given out lbw against Garth.

She completed her half-century in the 47th over before departing for 54 in the 49th.

Beth Mooney produced a sharp piece of wicketkeeping to complete the dismissal. Standing close to the stumps, she collected Sutherland’s bouncer and removed the bails after Shorna lost contact with her crease.

Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 172, with Sutherland and Gardner claiming two wickets each.

    Bangladesh Make Early Breakthroughs

Defending 173, Bangladesh briefly raised hopes of a competitive contest by removing both Australian openers inside six overs. Sultana Khatun trapped Georgia Voll lbw for 11 in the second over. ODI debutant Disha Biswas then bowled Beth Mooney for 21, reducing Australia to 38/2.

However, the early wickets brought together Perry and Sutherland, who quickly shifted the momentum back towards the hosts.

The pair attacked Bangladesh’s bowlers from the beginning of their partnership, striking seven boundaries across the next five overs.

Australia reached 74/2 at the end of the powerplay, leaving Bangladesh with little opportunity to regain control.

Perry and Sutherland Seal The Victory

Sutherland maintained an aggressive approach throughout the chase, finding boundaries regularly and putting pressure on Bangladesh’s fielders. She brought up her half-century in the 20th over by advancing down the pitch and hitting Biswas over mid-off.

Perry reached her 52 deliveries later with a single, continuing her composed innings alongside the younger all-rounder.

With Australia already 140/2 after 20 overs, the pair required only another 16 deliveries to complete the victory.

Sutherland made 74 not out from 52 balls, while Perry’s 65 not out came from 64 deliveries. Their unbroken 137-run partnership carried Australia to 175/2 in 22.4 overs, sealing the match with 164 balls remaining.

    Australia Complete Series Sweep

The victory confirmed Australia’s superiority throughout the three-match ODI series. After comfortably chasing targets of 167 and 221 in the opening two matches, the hosts once again made light work of Bangladesh’s total.

Schutt’s early wickets prevented Bangladesh from building a strong platform, while Perry and Sutherland ensured there would be no late complications in the chase.

Australia also collected two points in the ICC Women’s Championship, with Bangladesh unable to earn any points from the final match.

For Bangladesh, half-centuries from Sharmin and Shorna provided some encouragement, while Disha Biswas marked her ODI debut with a wicket.

Following the match, several Bangladesh players also shared moments with their Australian counterparts, taking photographs together at the end of the series.
