South Africa Women claimed a 15-run victory over Ireland Women in their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up fixture after defending a total of 135/8 in a rain-affected contest. The match was shortened to 18 overs per side, with Ireland winning the toss and choosing to field first.

Laura Wolvaardt led the way with the bat for South Africa, producing a commanding 65 from just 37 deliveries. Her innings included seven fours and three sixes and provided the foundation for the team’s total. Apart from Wolvaardt, Annerie Dercksen was the only batter to make a notable contribution, scoring 26 from 24 balls.

The rest of the batting lineup found scoring difficult against a disciplined Irish attack. Tazmin Brits was stumped after making 3, while Marizanne Kapp and Sinalo Jafta also managed only 3 runs each. Kayla Reyneke and Shabnim Ismail were dismissed without scoring, while Nadine de Klerk added 11 from 11 deliveries. Tumi Sekhukhune remained unbeaten on 1 as South Africa closed on 135/8.

Ireland Bowlers Keep South Africa in Check

Ireland used seven bowlers during the innings and regularly picked up wickets to prevent South Africa from building further momentum.

Arlene Kelly finished as the leading wicket-taker with figures of 3/29 from three overs. Ava Canning delivered an impressive spell, claiming 2/8 in her two overs, while Cara Murray also struck twice, returning figures of 2/13 from two overs.

Aimee Maguire added one wicket and conceded just 13 runs from her three overs. Lara McBride remained wicketless but kept things tidy with 14 runs from two overs. Alana Dalzell conceded 18 runs in two overs, while Georgina Dempsey endured a difficult outing, finishing with 0/41 from four overs.

    Ireland Fall Short in Chase

Ireland’s pursuit of 136 never gained full momentum despite several batters making useful contributions.

The innings began poorly as Alana Dalzell departed for a first-ball duck. Amy Hunter made 9, while captain Gaby Lewis was dismissed for 5 during the powerplay.

Rebecca Stokell briefly lifted the scoring rate with 19 from 14 balls, while Leah Paul top-scored with a determined 29 off 27 deliveries. Further contributions came from Alice Tector, who made 17, Louise Little with 13, and Arlene Kelly with 15. Christina Coulter Reilly added 4 runs, while Ava Canning remained unbeaten on 2.

Despite those efforts, Ireland struggled to build substantial partnerships as South Africa’s bowlers continued to strike at crucial moments. Including six extras, Ireland were eventually bowled out for 120 in 17.4 overs.

Kapp Leads Clinical South African Bowling Effort

South Africa produced a disciplined display with the ball at the Haslegrave Ground in Loughborough to seal the win.

Marizanne Kapp starred with a match-winning spell, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs from her four overs. Tumi Sekhukhune provided strong support with figures of 2/18 from 2.4 overs, while Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up 2/25 in her three overs.

Nadine de Klerk maintained excellent control, finishing with 1/16 from three overs, while Shabnim Ismail claimed 1/25 from her four overs. Kayla Reyneke bowled one over, conceding 10 runs without taking a wicket.

Wolvaardt and Kapp Inspire South Africa to Victory

South Africa’s success was built around Laura Wolvaardt’s outstanding 65 and Marizanne Kapp’s decisive bowling performance of 4/24.

For Ireland, early top-order setbacks, including a golden duck for Alana Dalzell, made the chase difficult. The expensive spell from Georgina Dempsey, who conceded 41 runs without taking a wicket, also proved costly as South Africa completed a successful defense to finish with a 15-run victory.
