Laura Wolvaardt led the way with the bat for South Africa, producing a commanding 65 from just 37 deliveries. Her innings included seven fours and three sixes and provided the foundation for the team’s total. Apart from Wolvaardt, Annerie Dercksen was the only batter to make a notable contribution, scoring 26 from 24 balls.
The rest of the batting lineup found scoring difficult against a disciplined Irish attack. Ireland’s pursuit of 136 never gained full momentum despite several batters making useful contributions.
The innings began poorly as Alana Dalzell departed for a first-ball duck. Amy Hunter made 9, while captain Gaby Lewis was dismissed for 5 during the powerplay.
Rebecca Stokell briefly lifted the scoring rate with 19 from 14 balls, while Leah Paul top-scored with a determined 29 off 27 deliveries. South Africa’s success was built around Laura Wolvaardt’s outstanding 65 and Marizanne Kapp’s decisive bowling performance of 4/24.
For Ireland, early top-order setbacks, including a golden duck for Alana Dalzell, made the chase difficult. The expensive spell from Georgina Dempsey, who conceded 41 runs without taking a wicket, also proved costly as South Africa completed a successful defense to finish with a 15-run victory.
