Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed the appointment of Jamie Siddons as the new head coach of the Sri Lanka women’s national team. The former Australian cricketer succeeds Rumesh Ratnayake, who had been in the role since February 2023. Siddons will begin his one-year tenure on March 16, 2026, as the team prepares for a busy period in international women’s cricket.
Extensive Coaching Background
Siddons brings significant coaching experience from both international and domestic cricket. One of the most notable phases of his coaching career came when he served as head coach of the Bangladesh men’s national team between 2007 and 2011.
During that period, Bangladesh made notable progress and secured several memorable victories against higher-ranked opposition. Alongside his international experience, Siddons has also built a strong reputation through his work in domestic cricket.
He served as head coach of South Australia’s domestic side, the Redbacks, from 2015 to 2020. His time with the team focused heavily on player development and strengthening the squad within Australian domestic competitions. Before joining South Australia, Siddons spent time in New Zealand, where he worked as head coach of the Wellington Firebirds from 2011 to 2015.
Through these roles, he gained experience working in a variety of cricketing environments while managing professional teams.
Playing Career and Coaching Credentials
Siddons is a Level 3 qualified coach and is known for his technical understanding of the game as well as his ability to develop players at both domestic and international levels. His experience as a professional cricketer also contributes to his coaching approach and understanding of the challenges faced by players.
During his playing career in Australian domestic cricket, Siddons represented both South Australia and Victoria in first-class cricket and captained both teams at different stages.
A Key Phase for Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket
Siddons takes charge at an important moment for the Sri Lanka women’s national team, which has shown steady progress in recent years. The side will be aiming to build momentum ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place in England and Wales in June and July.
His international experience and coaching background are expected to contribute to the team’s preparations for the tournament.
First Assignment as Head Coach
Siddons’ first assignment with the team will be Sri Lanka Women’s tour of Bangladesh in April and May 2026. The tour will provide an early opportunity for him to begin working with the squad and implement his plans for the coming months.
The appointment forms part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s continued efforts to strengthen women’s cricket and ensure the national side remains competitive at the international level. With Siddons now leading the team, Sri Lanka will aim to continue its development and perform strongly in upcoming international competitions, including the Women’s T20 World Cup.
