The Netherlands Women entered the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with excitement and hope as they prepared for their first-ever appearance in the tournament. However, their historic debut ended in disappointment as Bangladesh Women produced a disciplined performance to secure a six-wicket victory at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

This Bangladesh vs Netherlands review highlights how experience, tactical awareness, and calm decision-making helped Bangladesh overcome the tournament newcomers.

Netherlands Women World Cup Debut Analysis

The match marked a special occasion for the Netherlands Women, but the team struggled to make the most of key moments.

Batting first, the Dutch side found it difficult to build momentum against a well-organised Bangladesh bowling attack. Captain Babette de Leede led from the front with a determined half-century, scoring 50 runs from 45 balls.

While her effort kept the innings together, the rest of the top order could not provide enough support. Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained tight control and limited scoring opportunities throughout the middle overs.

At one stage, the Netherlands had reached only 69 runs after 11 overs. The innings received a late boost thanks to valuable lower order contributions, helping the team finish on 139 for 8 from 20 overs.

In this Netherlands Women World Cup debut analysis, the lack of partnerships and slow-scoring phases proved costly against an experienced opposition.

    Bangladesh Women Tactical Victory

The biggest reason behind the result was the Bangladesh Women tactical victory. From the toss to the final over, Bangladesh appeared better prepared and more organised.

After choosing to bowl first, the bowlers executed their plans perfectly. Marufa Akter picked up important wickets, while Ritu Moni played a key role by keeping the pressure on with an economical spell.

Bangladesh’s bowlers rarely offered easy scoring chances and forced the Netherlands batters to take risks.

The difference was also visible in the field. Bangladesh saved runs consistently and maintained energy throughout the innings.

On the other hand, the Dutch side struggled with bowling discipline during the chase. Loose deliveries and extra runs allowed Bangladesh’s batters to settle comfortably.

A Strong Start to the Chase

Bangladesh approached the target with confidence. Opener Juairiya Ferdous provided the ideal start, scoring a brilliant 50 from just 33 balls.

She attacked the bowlers early and shared a 67 run opening partnership with Dilara Akter. Their aggressive approach immediately placed the Netherlands under pressure.

The Dutch bowlers fought back through Caroline de Lange and Silver Siegers, reducing Bangladesh from 67 without loss to 85 for 4.

For a brief period, the match seemed evenly balanced.

    Sharmin Akhter Seals the Win

Despite the mini collapse, Bangladesh remained calm. Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter refused to panic and focused on building a partnership.

The pair added an unbeaten 56 runs and guided the team safely towards the target. Sharmin finished on 37 not out, while Shorna remained unbeaten on 14.

Bangladesh eventually reached 141 for 4 with five balls remaining.

    A Memorable Victory for Bangladesh

This Bangladesh vs Netherlands review shows why experience matters in major tournaments. Bangladesh combined disciplined bowling, smart batting, and strong fielding to secure a historic victory.

The result also marked Bangladesh’s highest successful run chase in Women’s T20 World Cup history. While the Netherlands gained valuable experience from their debut, Bangladesh left Edgbaston with confidence and an important win to begin their campaign.
