West Indies captain Hayley Matthews produced one of the finest innings in women’s ODI cricket during the opening match of the three-match series against Zimbabwe Women in Harare on September 24. Her magnificent 182 from 156 deliveries guided West Indies to 299 and established a new national record for the highest individual score by a West Indies woman in ODI cricket.
The opening batter anchored the innings from start to finish, combining patience with controlled aggression to give her side a commanding platform.

Timely Return to Form
The landmark innings arrived after a relatively quiet spell for the West Indies captain.
During the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Matthews averaged 24.17 across six matches. She also endured modest returns in franchise cricket, averaging 28.00 in the 2026 Women’s Caribbean Premier League and 15.75 during The Hundred.
After leading from the front in the opening ODI, Matthews will be hoping to carry that momentum through the remainder of the Zimbabwe series and into the major international tournaments that lie ahead.
