India batter Harleen Deol has joined defending champions Barbados Tridents for the remainder of the 2026 Women’s Caribbean Premier League. The move gives the Indian batter her first opportunity to play in an overseas franchise T20 league and adds further batting depth to the Barbados side.
Deol arrived in Bridgetown as the fifth overseas player in the Tridents squad. Her signing came at short notice after the franchise contacted her about joining the team during the WCPL window. With the Indian batter not involved in the senior national team’s Asia Cup and Asian Games commitments or the India A tour of Australia, she was available to make the move.
Harleen Deol Barbados Tridents move
Harleen Deol’s Barbados Tridents signing was completed quickly, with the batter revealing that she had only been with the team for two days when she spoke about the move. She admitted that the opportunity came at the last minute but said she was excited about experiencing franchise cricket outside India.
“I’m with the Barbados Tridents and it’s only been two days for me. It was very last minute. So, I’m very excited,” Deol said.
She also explained that playing franchise cricket in another country would offer valuable experience and learning opportunities. Rather than putting pressure on herself to immediately produce big performances, Deol said she wanted to play freely and enjoy her cricket.
Harleen Deol WCPL 2026 opportunity
Harleen Deol’s WCPL 2026 stint represents an important opportunity for the Indian batter to gain experience in different conditions and alongside international players. Deol has already played franchise cricket in India’s Women’s Premier League, representing Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz.
Her arrival also takes the number of Indian players involved in the 2026 WCPL to five. Pooja Vastrakar and Kiran Navgire are also part of the Barbados Tridents squad, while Shikha Pandey and Yastika Bhatia represent Trinbago Knight Riders.
Deol is expected to strengthen the Tridents’ top and middle order as they attempt to continue their impressive record in the competition. Her ability to contribute with the bat gives the defending champions another option as they manage their squad during the tournament.
Barbados Tridents Women squad
Barbados Tridents Women squad entered the 2026 tournament as three-time reigning champions, having won the previous three editions in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Their overseas group includes experienced players such as Suzie Bates and Maddy Green, alongside India’s Pooja Vastrakar, Kiran Navgire and now Deol.
Barbados suffered a defeat against Trinbago Knight Riders in their opening match, increasing the importance of their upcoming fixtures. Deol was added to the squad ahead of their matches against Jamaica Empress and Guyana Amazon Warriors as they looked to strengthen their playoff qualification hopes.
The Indian batter’s addition could therefore prove important during the second half of the campaign. The defending champions already have considerable experience within their squad, and Deol gives them another flexible batting option.
For Deol, the WCPL represents more than just a short-term opportunity. It is a chance to experience a different franchise environment, adapt to Caribbean conditions and learn from international teammates. As Barbados push for another title, the Indian batter will hope to make her first overseas franchise stint a memorable one.
