Indian Star Creates History at Lord’s

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has achieved another incredible milestone in her cricket career. India’s final Group A match against Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Lord’s made Deepti Sharma leading wicket-taker in the history of women’s international cricket.

The historic moment came when Deepti dismissed Australian opener Beth Mooney. The wicket was her 356th in international cricket, helping her move past former Indian fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, who had held the record with 355 wickets.

Although India could not reach the semi finals after losing to Australia, the tournament will always be remembered for Deepti’s remarkable achievement.

A New Record in Women’s Cricket

The latest Deepti Sharma achievements place her at the top of the list of the most successful bowlers in women’s international cricket.

She has now taken 356 wickets in 278 international matches across all three formats.

Her wickets include 22 in Test cricket, 166 in One Day Internationals, and 168 in T20 Internationals.

Jhulan Goswami now sits second on the list with 355 wickets from 284 matches. Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry is third with 336 wickets, while Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone complete the top five.

The record becomes even more impressive because Deepti reached the milestone in six fewer matches than Jhulan Goswami.

    Outstanding World Cup Performance

The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 became one of the best tournaments of Deepti’s career.

Earlier in the competition, she produced a brilliant bowling performance against Pakistan by taking five wickets for just 10 runs.

That spell also helped her become the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 International cricket.

During the same match, Deepti became the first female finger spinner to reach 350 international wickets, adding another major milestone to her growing list of achievements.

Her consistent performances throughout the tournament once again proved why she remains one of India’s most valuable players.

    What Makes Deepti So Special

One reason behind the Deepti Sharma achievements is her ability to perform in every stage of an innings.

She often bowls with the new ball and controls the scoring by keeping tight lines and making it difficult for batters to attack.

She is also trusted during the final overs, where many bowlers struggle under pressure. Deepti changes her pace cleverly and mixes her deliveries to stop batters from scoring freely.

Her calm approach and ability to deliver in important moments have made her one of India’s biggest match winners for more than a decade.

Among the Greatest Women Bowlers of All Time

There is no doubt that Deepti now belongs among the greatest women bowlers of all time.

Since making her international debut in 2014, she has shown remarkable consistency in Test matches, One Day Internationals, and T20 Internationals.

Her success has come through hard work, patience, and continuous improvement. Instead of relying only on spin, she uses accuracy, smart planning, and control to trouble batters from around the world.

Her record-breaking journey has inspired many young cricketers who dream of representing India.

    Final Thoughts

Deepti Sharma leading wicket-taker in women’s international cricket is a historic achievement that highlights her incredible career.

Even though India’s World Cup campaign ended in disappointment, Deepti gave fans a moment they will never forget by breaking one of the biggest records in the sport.

Her name now stands proudly at the top of the list of the greatest women bowlers of all time, and her achievements will continue to inspire future generations of cricketers.
