South Africa all-rounder Dane van Niekerk has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing tour of New Zealand due to injury.
Cricket South Africa confirmed that the 32-year-old is dealing with a right calf problem after experiencing discomfort ahead of the opening Women’s T20I between the two sides. She did not feature in that match and will now miss the rest of the T20I series as well as the subsequent three-match ODI leg.
Anneke Bosch has been called up to replace van Niekerk in the squad.
Van Niekerk had only recently returned to the T20I setup in December following a four-year absence, taking part in matches against Ireland and Pakistan. After missing the ODI series against Pakistan, she had been expected to feature in the format during the New Zealand tour.
Bosch, meanwhile, could be set for her first T20I appearance since November 2024. She was also a member of the South Africa side that finished runners-up to India in the final of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
South Africa are scheduled to face New Zealand in the second T20I on Tuesday, March 17, with three additional matches remaining in the series before the teams move on to the ODI contests.
