Australia received a brief injury scare ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 final after star all-rounder Ellyse Perry walked off the field during the semi-final against the West Indies. However, the latest Ellyse Perry injury update has brought positive news for Australian fans, with the experienced cricketer expected to be available for the title clash against England at Lord’s on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

Perry’s early exit initially raised concerns that Australia could lose one of its most important players for the tournament’s biggest match. Fortunately for the defending champions, team officials have indicated that the issue is not serious.

    Ellyse Perry Injury Update

During Australia’s chase of 126 at The Oval, Perry scored just 2 runs from 7 balls before leaving the field unexpectedly.

The Australian medical team later described the problem as “minor quad awareness”, rather than a muscle tear or strain. With Australia already in complete control of the match at 64 for 2 after seven overs, the team management decided not to take any unnecessary risks.

Instead of allowing Perry to continue and potentially worsen the problem, the coaching staff chose to withdraw her as a precaution ahead of the World Cup final.

The decision reflected Australia’s focus on ensuring one of its most valuable players remains available for the biggest game of the tournament.

Will Ellyse Perry Play in Final World Cup Game?

Many fans have been asking, will Ellyse Perry play in the final? Based on the latest updates from the Australian camp, the answer is yes.

Australia captain Sophie Molineux expressed confidence that Perry will recover in time for Sunday’s final.

According to Molineux, the issue is simply some quad awareness and early signs suggest Perry should be ready to play against England.

Head coach Shelley Nitschke also struck an optimistic tone. While she confirmed that the medical staff will continue monitoring Perry’s movement, running, and fielding, she admitted that Australia may accept a small amount of risk considering the importance of the World Cup final.

The coaching staff would ideally prefer Perry to be fully fit, but her experience and influence make her a crucial player for Australia’s title hopes.

    Why Perry is so important

The positive Ellyse Perry injury update comes as a major relief because she has been Australia’s standout batter during the tournament.

Perry currently leads the team with 185 runs, averaging 46.25 with an impressive strike rate of 135.03.

She also played two match-winning knocks earlier in the competition, scoring consecutive half-centuries against India and Pakistan to help Australia maintain an unbeaten record heading into the knockout stage.

Her calm approach and ability to deliver under pressure have once again made her one of Australia’s most dependable performers.

Australia hopeful ahead of the final

Although the injury scare briefly caused concern, Australia’s management remains optimistic about Perry’s availability. Barring any setbacks during the final training sessions, she is expected to take her place in the playing eleven against England.

So, will Ellyse Perry play in the final? All current indications suggest, she will. With Australia’s leading run-scorer likely to be fit, the reigning champions will be confident of fielding one of their strongest possible lineups as they chase a historic seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title at Lord’s.
