Australia completed a dominant ODI series sweep with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over the West Indies in the third match at Basseterre on Thursday (April 2). A five-wicket performance from leg-spinner Alana King set up the win, as the visitors dismissed the hosts for 136 before chasing the target with more than 30 overs remaining.
West Indies, after opting to bat, made a steady start and reached 49/1 during the Powerplay. However, their innings lost momentum soon after, as they slipped to 78/5 by the 19th over.
King Leads Collapse After Promising Start
The hosts struggled to recover, with only two notable partnerships in the innings. The opening stand yielded 38 runs, while Realeanna Grimmond and Chinelle Henry added 37 runs for the middle order.
Grimmond was dismissed by King in the 27th over, triggering a collapse as the lower order failed to contribute. Henry remained unbeaten on 42 but ran out of partners as West Indies were bowled out for 136 in 35.4 overs.
King finished with figures of 5-19, while Ashleigh Gardner supported with 2-29.
Litchfield and Perry Guide Comfortable Chase
Australia’s response was swift and controlled. A 50-run opening partnership laid the foundation for an uncomplicated chase.
Georgia Voll was the only batter to fall, after which Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry combined for an unbroken 87-run stand to take the game away from the hosts. Litchfield remained unbeaten on 68, while Perry contributed 33* as Australia reached 137/1 in 19.4 overs.
