India introduced 22-year-old all-rounder Kashvee Gautam to the T20I stage during the opening match of the five-game series against South Africa at Kingsmead. Making her debut under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, Gautam contributed a quick 10 off 8 balls, including a six, as India posted 157 for 7 after Laura Wolvaardt opted to bowl first.

Batting at No. 6, Gautam added late impetus to the innings, providing a brief but impactful contribution against a disciplined South African attack in the series opener.

    Rapid Rise Through the Ranks

Gautam’s progression to the international stage has come swiftly. She made her ODI debut on April 27, 2025, against Sri Lanka in Colombo and has since taken 3 wickets across 6 matches at an average of 86.66 and an economy rate of 5.86. With the bat, she has scored 90 runs in five innings at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 92.78.

Her Test debut followed on March 6, 2026, against Australia at the W.A.C.A. in Perth. In that match, she maintained an economy rate of 4.88 across two innings and scored 34 runs at a strike rate of 58.62, highlighting her value as an all-round option.

    Performances Leading to T20I Call-Up

Gautam’s selection for the T20I squad came after consistent performances, including her outings in the recent multi-format series against Australia and her contributions in the 2026 edition of the Women’s Premier League with Gujarat Giants.

Her ability to contribute with both bat and ball made her a strong addition to the squad for the South Africa tour.

    Promising Start in Series Opener

Her cameo at Kingsmead, highlighted by a six, came at a crucial stage as India looked to push their total in the closing overs. While brief, the innings reflected her intent and adaptability in international cricket.

With matches scheduled across Durban and Johannesburg, Gautam will look to build on her debut performance as India continue their preparations ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
