Anika Learoyd produced a commanding unbeaten century to put CA Gold in a strong position on the opening day of their three-day red-ball clash against CA Green at Bankstown Oval in Sydney. Gold were bowled out for 292 before reducing Green to 63/1 at stumps, ending the day firmly on top.

Learoyd Anchors Gold After Early Wobbles

After choosing to bat, CA Gold endured a shaky start with Katie Mack dismissed for 4, caught by Bridget Patterson off Tayla Vlaeminck. Courtney Webb (25 off 38) and Maddy Darke (21 off 53) attempted to stabilise the innings, but both fell to Hayley Silver-Holmes, leaving the side at 53/3 inside 18 overs.

From there, Learoyd took charge. Walking in early, she anchored the innings with a composed approach, later shifting gears when needed. She remained unbeaten on 142 off 176 balls, striking 12 fours and three sixes.

Learoyd built key partnerships to steady the innings, first with Olivia Porter (16 off 44) and then with Ella Hayward (10), taking Gold past the 100-run mark. Despite a brief collapse in the 36th over, she found crucial support from Lucy Finn.

    Finn’s Support Strengthens Total

Finn played an important supporting role, scoring 59 off 129 deliveries, including six boundaries. Together, she and Learoyd added a vital 145-run partnership for the seventh wicket, lifting Gold from a vulnerable position into one of control.

Although the lower order—Hasrat Gill, Lilly Mills and Frankie Nicklin—failed to add significant runs, Learoyd remained unbeaten as Gold were eventually dismissed for 292 in 83.3 overs.

For CA Green, Charli Knott led the bowling effort with 3/58, while Milly Illingworth (2/30), Hayley Silver-Holmes (2/31) and Jemma Barsby (2/59) all claimed two wickets each. Vlaeminck also made an early impact, finishing with 1/15.

    Green Steady After Early Setback

In response, CA Green began cautiously but lost Emma de Broughe early, slipping to 4/1. Rachel Trenaman and Charli Knott then combined to stabilise the innings with an unbroken 59-run stand.

Trenaman closed the day on 18 not out from 54 balls, while Knott added impetus with 37 not out off 29 deliveries, including seven boundaries.

At stumps, CA Green were 63/1 from 14 overs, trailing by 229 runs with nine wickets remaining.

CA Gold hold the advantage after Day One, largely due to Learoyd’s dominant innings and Finn’s key contribution. However, CA Green’s unbeaten partnership offers a platform as they head into Day Two looking to reduce the deficit.
