India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has spoken warmly about her close relationship with teammate Smriti Mandhana, describing her as an “elder sister” within the national squad. The two players have often been seen supporting one another both on and off the field, with their bond playing a significant role during India’s successful 2025 World Cup campaign.

Rodrigues, who captains Delhi Capitals in domestic franchise cricket, opened up about their connection in an interview. She highlighted how their friendship has grown over time through shared experiences on tour and in international competition.

“It’s a very pure bond, almost like how sisters share a connection. You get a mix of everything: the masti (fun), the playful teasing, the moments of troubling each other, but also being there for one another when it matters most.” Jemimah said.

“She has kind of taken care of me like an elder sister, and it’s really nice to find that comfort, especially in a sport where you’re always away from family. In a cricket team, we’re traveling together throughout the year, so I feel very blessed to have that kind of bond.”

Rodrigues’ association with Mandhana dates back to the early stages of her career, and their friendship has been evident in several instances. In 2025, Rodrigues opted to skip the Women’s Big Bash League season in order to remain by Mandhana’s side during a difficult personal period.

Their camaraderie was also visible during the 2026 Women’s Premier League, when Mandhana was among the first to console Rodrigues after Delhi Capitals suffered a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru under her captaincy.

Both players were key contributors to India’s historic World Cup triumph in 2025. Mandhana finished the tournament with 434 runs at an average of 54.25, while Rodrigues added 292 runs at an average of 58.40.

With the 2026 ICC Women’s World Cup approaching, the pair are set to reunite in England later this year. Rodrigues expressed her determination to continue building on the team’s success as expectations rise following their recent achievements.

“Well, that’s the plan. We’ve got the 50-over one, and now it’s time to get the T20 one. I’m really looking forward to it and working as hard as possible because we know the responsibility is greater now, and so are the expectations. At the same time, as a team, we’re just going to push and keep getting better.” Jemimah said.
