South Africa Women have dominated the opening two matches of the five-game T20I series against India, putting the visitors under pressure heading into a crucial third encounter. The hosts chased down 158 with five balls to spare in the first game and followed it with a commanding eight-wicket victory in Durban.

India showed glimpses of promise through Shafali Verma’s aggressive half-century in the second match, but their middle order failed to build on the momentum, finishing at 147. South Africa’s opening pair of Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus made light work of the target, putting together a substantial stand to seal another convincing win.

    High Stakes in Johannesburg

As the action shifts to the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg for the third T20I, the pressure is firmly on India. A defeat here would hand South Africa the series with two matches still remaining.

India will be looking for stronger contributions from experienced batters such as Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, both of whom are yet to produce a defining performance in the series. On the bowling front, Shreyanka Patil has delivered consistent breakthroughs, but the pace attack will need to provide greater support to contain a confident South African top order.

    Squads

    South Africa Women’s Cricket Team
Laura Wolvaardt (C), Anneke Bosch, Tazmin Brits, Nadine de Klerk, Annerie Dercksen, Ayanda Hlubi, Sinalo Jafta, Ayabonga Khaka, Sune Luus, Tebogo Macheke, Eliz-Mari Marx, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Kayla Reyneke, Tumi Sekhukhune, Chloe Tryon

    India Women’s Cricket Team
Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana, Uma Chetry, Bharti Fulmali, Kranti Gaud, Kashvee Gautam, Richa Ghosh, Shreyanka Patil, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Anushka Sharma, N Sree Charani

    Players to Watch

    • Laura Wolvaardt: The South African skipper has led from the front with 105 runs in two matches, averaging 52.50 with two half-centuries. Her 15 boundaries and strike rate of 143.83 underline her impact at the top.
    • Tumi Sekhukhune: The leading wicket-taker in the series so far, Sekhukhune has claimed 5 wickets in 8 overs. Her best figures of 3/31 and strike rate of 9.60 highlight her ability to strike regularly.
    • Shafali Verma: India’s explosive opener has scored 91 runs in two innings at a strike rate of 156.89. Her 57-run knock showcased her ability to dominate the powerplay.
    • Shreyanka Patil: A key performer with the ball, Patil has taken 4 wickets across two matches, maintaining an economy of 7.62 and a strike rate of 12.00.

    Pitch Report

The Wanderers surface, often referred to as the “bull ring,” is known for its pace and bounce. The hard pitch and high altitude conditions allow the ball to travel quickly, making it favorable for both fast bowlers and stroke-makers. As the game progresses, it tends to become a reliable batting surface.

    Weather Conditions

The forecast suggests light rain throughout the day, with temperatures ranging between 11°C and 19°C. There is a 50% chance of precipitation, along with northwest winds at 7 mph and humidity around 78%.

    Fantasy Playing XI

Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, Nadine de Klerk, Ayabonga Khaka, Sune Luus, Tumi Sekhukhune, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shreyanka Patil, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma
