Australia U19 Women, led by Tegan Williamson, began their Under-19 Tri-Series campaign with a six-wicket victory over England at Ian Healy Oval. The tournament, featuring England and Sri Lanka, includes a two-match One Day leg followed by a four-match T20 series.

    Australia Restrict England to 166

After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Australia made early inroads when Ira Aery removed Olivia Cunliffe in the fifth over.

England responded through a 47-run partnership for the second wicket between Prarthana Reddy and Amelia Oliver. Reddy scored 19 off 34 balls before Filippa Suesee broke the stand in the 15th over.

Despite reaching 80 for 5 in the 21st over, England found some resistance through Mollie Adams (23 off 35 balls) and captain Sophie Beech (22 off 33 balls), who added 39 runs for the sixth wicket to take the total past 100.

Amelia Oliver top-scored with 27 off 42 balls, while extras contributed significantly, adding 21 runs. England were eventually bowled out for 166 in the 44th over.

Williamson led from the front with the ball, returning figures of 3 for 28 in 6.4 overs. She was supported by Ayaka Stafford (1/18), Ira Aery (1/11), Ava Drury (1/20) and Mia Barwick (1/10).

    Williamson Anchors the Chase

In pursuit of 167, Australia got off to a steady start through Mia Barwick (14 off 17) and Shiloh Julien (19 off 37), who added 20 runs for the opening wicket before Barwick was dismissed by Clara Thaker.

Julien and Emily Powell then built a 32-run partnership for the second wicket to move the innings forward, before Bryony Gillgrass dismissed Julien in the 13th over.

Williamson and Indira Panelli (22 off 38 balls) combined for a crucial 48-run stand, placing Australia in control. Panelli fell in the 27th over, with Eliza Bristowe providing England a breakthrough.

Williamson remained composed, finding support from Filippa Suesee (8* off 18 balls). The pair added an unbeaten 44-run partnership for the fifth wicket to seal the chase.

The Australia captain finished unbeaten on 58 off 37 balls, striking seven boundaries and a six, guiding her side home comfortably.

    England Bowling Effort

England’s wickets were shared among Clara Thaker (1/33), Bryony Gillgrass (1/27), Venus Weerappuli (1/28) and Eliza Bristowe (1/43), while Maria Andrews bowled a tight spell of 0/33 from nine overs.

    Conclusion

Williamson’s all-round performance proved decisive as Australia U19 Women secured a strong start to the tri-series. Her contributions with both bat and ball ensured control throughout, setting the tone for the remainder of the tournament.
