Turkey Women made an impressive start to their Women’s Continental Cup 2026 campaign, defeating Austria Women by eight wickets in the tournament opener at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground in Ilfov County.
The rain-affected contest was reduced to 10 overs per side, but Turkey produced an outstanding bowling display before comfortably chasing down a modest target with 27 balls to spare.
Turkey Bowlers Tear Through Austria
After winning the toss, Turkey captain Kubra Canavarci chose to field first, and her decision paid immediate dividends.
Austria slumped to 10/3 inside the opening three overs as Turkey’s bowlers struck regularly. Komati Reddy and Sheetal Bhardwaj attempted to rebuild the innings with a 20-run partnership for the fourth wicket, offering the only real resistance of the innings.
Canavarci broke the stand by dismissing Reddy for 8 from 19 balls, triggering another collapse.
Austria then lost their final six wickets for just five runs and were bowled out for only 35 in the ninth over. Remarkably, none of their batters managed to reach double figures.
Despite conceding 19 extras, Turkey’s bowling attack completely dominated the contest.
Celik and Canavarci Lead the Attack
Hacer Celik delivered the standout bowling performance, finishing with outstanding figures of 4/6 from her two overs.
Captain Kubra Canavarci provided excellent support, claiming 3/5 while Ezgi Nur Kilic added another wicket with figures of 1/6.
The trio dismantled Austria’s batting line-up to leave Turkey needing just 36 runs for victory.
Austria Strike Early but Turkey Stay Calm
Austria attempted to fight back by taking two early wickets during the chase, reducing Turkey to 13/2 in the third over. Captain Canavarci was dismissed without scoring after facing four deliveries.
However, Zehra Ender and Melike Bayram quickly settled any nerves.
The pair shared an unbeaten 27-run partnership for the third wicket, guiding Turkey comfortably to the target.
Ender remained unbeaten on 13 from 12 balls, while Bayram finished on 11 not out from just eight deliveries.
Turkey reached 42/2 with 4.3 overs remaining to complete an emphatic eight-wicket victory.
Canavarci Named Player of the Match
Mallika Pathirannehelage was Austria’s only successful bowler, taking both wickets to finish with figures of 2/7.
For Turkey, however, the day belonged to captain Kubra Canavarci. Her outstanding spell of 3/5 earned her the Player of the Match award as she led her side to a commanding opening victory.
The comprehensive win gives Turkey early momentum in the Women’s Continental Cup 2026 and highlights the strength of their bowling attack heading into the remainder of the tournament.
