Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced a ₹75 lakh cash award for young cricketer G. Kamalini after she was part of the Indian women’s team that won gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The state government recognised the Madurai-born wicketkeeper-batter following India’s title-winning campaign.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the women’s T20 final at Korogi Sports Park, scoring 216/3 before bowling Sri Lanka out for 69. The result keeps the fans happy as India retain the Asian Games women’s cricket gold medal.
Vijay praised Kamalini’s achievement and confirmed that the Tamil Nadu government would reward her contribution.
“Appreciating the great achievement of cricketer Kamalini, on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu, a prestigious cash award of Rs 75 lakhs will be given.”
He also highlighted the wider impact of her success.
“This victory of Kamalini will provide new inspiration and confidence to the youth and women of Tamil Nadu. I wish her many more achievements!”
Kamalini’s Role in India’s Gold Medal Campaign
Kamalini was part of India’s successful squad and featured during the tournament before the final.
Against Bangladesh in the semi-final, she scored three runs from 10 balls as India posted 195/4 and went on to win by 114 runs.
She was also part of the team that defeated Japan by eight wickets earlier in the competition. India eventually completed the campaign by overcoming Sri Lanka in the final and securing another continental gold.
Another Milestone in Kamalini’s Young Career
Kamalini has already accumulated several notable achievements at a young age.
She previously helped India win the 2024 Women’s U19 Asia Cup and the 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. She also became the youngest player to debut in the Women’s Premier League before making her senior India debut in December 2025.
The Asian Games gold medal adds another major achievement to her rapidly developing career and has brought further recognition to the wicketkeeper-batter from Madurai.
The ₹75 lakh reward from the Tamil Nadu government reflects that progress and the growing attention surrounding her performances at both youth and senior level.
