Lancashire Women ended their Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign on a winning note with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Headingley. In an emotional farewell, retiring duo Kate Cross and Fi Morris played leading roles as Lancashire bowled Yorkshire out for 210 before chasing the target with ease.

Yorkshire captain Lauren Winfield-Hill produced a fine 90, but a dramatic batting collapse saw the hosts lose their final six wickets for just 31 runs. Lancashire opener Eve Jones then anchored the chase with a composed 77 to seal the win in the 41st over.

    Yorkshire Collapse After Strong Start

After Lancashire captain Ellie Threlkeld elected to field, Winfield-Hill gave Yorkshire an excellent platform. The experienced opener struck sixes off both Kate Cross and Tara Norris as the home side reached 53/2 in the 15th over.

Cross removed Rebecca Duckworth, while Norris had Jess Jonassen caught behind to provide Lancashire with early breakthroughs.

Winfield-Hill brought up her half-century from 59 balls before Yorkshire continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Sterre Kalis fell for 21 after being bowled by Fi Morris, while Sophie Morris dismissed Erin Thomas to maintain the pressure.

Ami Campbell counterattacked with a quick 26, including a huge six over midwicket, but her dismissal at 179/5 triggered a dramatic collapse.

Fi Morris dismissed Sarah Glenn and Beth Langston in quick succession, while Winfield-Hill’s excellent innings ended on 90 when she offered a return catch to Tara Norris. Sophie Morris trapped Claudie Cooper lbw before Grace Potts cleaned up Jess Woolston to bowl Yorkshire out for 210.

Cross finished with 2/54, while Fi Morris starred with 3/36 from her 10 overs.

    Eve Jones Leads The Chase

Lancashire’s pursuit got off to an ideal start as Eve Jones and Gaby Lewis shared an 83-run opening partnership.

Lewis scored 25 before becoming the second wicket to fall after being bowled by Sarah Glenn, while Jones continued to dominate the chase. The opener reached her fifth half-century of the season from just 64 balls, adding to the century she had already scored during the campaign.

Jones eventually departed for a well-made 77 after being bowled by Claudie Cooper with Lancashire well in control at 132/2.

Young left-hander Tilly Kesteven then continued the momentum with an impressive 47, displaying confident strokeplay before falling late in the innings.

Captain Ellie Threlkeld remained unbeaten on 31 and struck the winning runs as Lancashire reached the target with seven wickets in hand and nine overs to spare.

Emotional Farewell for Cross and Morris

The match also marked the final professional appearance for Lancashire veterans Kate Cross and Fi Morris.

Following the game, Yorkshire captain Lauren Winfield-Hill presented both players with bouquets of red and white roses in recognition of their outstanding careers.

While the afternoon celebrated the achievements of two retiring stars, Lancashire also had reason to look ahead, with Kesteven’s promising innings providing another glimpse of the club’s emerging talent.

    Match Summary

    Yorkshire Women 210 (47.5 overs): Lauren Winfield-Hill 90, Ami Campbell 26; Fi Morris 3/36, Kate Cross 2/54.

Lancashire Women 214/3 (40.6 overs): Eve Jones 77, Tilly Kesteven 47, Ellie Threlkeld 31*; Sarah Glenn 1 wicket.

Result: Lancashire Women won by seven wickets.
