Following a dominant performance at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), India Women have taken a 1-0 lead in the T20I leg of their multi-format tour of Australia. The victory, secured via the DLS method after rain interrupted the chase, was built on a clinical bowling display led by Arundhati Reddy, who claimed career-best figures for the second time on Australian soil.

The win reinforces India’s status as a global powerhouse following their recent ODI World Cup triumph, with the team now looking to secure the T20I series in Canberra this coming Thursday.

Match Highlights: Australia vs. India (1st T20I)

Australia appeared to be in a strong position early on, reaching 68/2 after seven overs. However, a spectacular catch by captain Harmanpreet Kaur to dismiss Ellyse Perry triggered a dramatic collapse.

    • The Collapse: Australia lost their final eight wickets for just 65 runs, with the last five wickets falling for a mere 12 runs.
    • Reddy’s Masterclass: Arundhati Reddy spearheaded the attack, finishing with 4/22. This follows her previous career-best of 4/26 at the WACA in 2024.
    • Renuka’s Discipline: Renuka Singh provided the early pressure, bowling an “outstanding” three-over powerplay spell that included a maiden over to the dangerous Phoebe Litchfield.

    Player Spotlight: Arundhati Reddy

Reddy’s affinity for Australian conditions is becoming a recurring theme for the Indian side. She credited her success to the “vibes” of the country and the tactical discussions held with senior bowlers like Renuka Singh.

    The Multi-Format Points System

The tour is governed by a weighted points system to determine the overall winner of the series. With a 1-0 lead in the T20Is, India has claimed the first two available points.

    What’s Next?

India has the opportunity to secure the T20I trophy with a victory in the second match at Manuka Oval, Canberra, on Thursday, February 19. Australia will be desperate to bounce back and level the points table before the series moves into the ODI phase.
