Pakistan opener Sidra Amin endured mixed fortunes during the rain-affected first ODI against South Africa at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on February 15. The 33-year-old produced a determined half-century in the chase but was later officially reprimanded by the ICC for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct.

South Africa, under the leadership of Laura Wolvaardt, is hosting Fatima Sana’s Pakistan side for a white-ball tour featuring three T20Is and three ODIs. After sealing the T20I series 2-1, the hosts opened the ODI leg with a 37-run win in a match shortened by rain. Batting at No. 3 in the second innings, Sidra struck 68 from 69 deliveries, including nine boundaries, to keep Pakistan in contention before her dismissal triggered the incident.

    ICC Charge and Disciplinary Action

The offence was classified under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” In the 24th over of Pakistan’s innings, Amin hit her bat on the ground after departing, an act that led to the charge. The complaint was brought forward by on-field umpires Kerrin Klaaste and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Lauren Agenbag and fourth umpire Stacy Lackay.

This is Amin’s second violation within a 24-month period. She previously received a demerit point during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 fixture against India on October 5, taking her total to two demerit points. The batter admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees member Shandrè Fritz, meaning no formal hearing was required. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum official reprimand and can result in penalties of up to 50% of match fees, along with one or two demerit points.

Despite the disciplinary setback, Amin’s innings once again highlighted her value at the top of Pakistan’s order, combining composure and attacking stroke play in challenging conditions. With the second ODI already in progress at SuperSport Park, Centurion, Pakistan will look to her experience as they aim to draw the series level while chasing.
