Durham Women opened their campaign and delivered a composed all-round performance to secure a 32-run victory over Hampshire Women in Match 5 of the Women’s T20 Vitality Blast 2026, with captain Hollie Armitage and spinner Katie Levick playing starring roles.
Armitage Anchors Strong Durham Total
After being put in to bat, Durham made a steady start despite losing an early wicket. Mady Villiers provided early momentum with a brisk 28 off 16 balls, forming a solid opening stand with Armitage.
Armitage then took control of the innings, combining fluency with smart strike rotation. She built key partnerships, first with Emily Windsor (35 off 26), and later with Bess Heath, who added a quickfire 24 from 16 deliveries.
The Durham skipper’s well-paced 64 off 49 balls proved to be the backbone of the innings, helping her side reach a competitive 178/5 in 20 overs.
Hampshire Fall Short in Chase
Chasing 179, Hampshire Women struggled to build sustained partnerships. Georgia Adams and Ella McCaughan got starts but failed to convert them into significant contributions.
Naomi Dattani briefly threatened with an aggressive 33 off 21 balls, while Rhianna Southby fought till the end with an unbeaten 33. However, the rising required run rate and regular wickets kept Hampshire under pressure throughout.
They eventually finished on 146/8, falling 32 runs short.
Durham Bowlers Seal the Game
Durham’s bowling attack maintained discipline and control during the chase. Villiers backed up her batting contribution with 2/29, while Levick delivered a crucial spell of 2/28 to break Hampshire’s momentum.
Heather Graham also made an impact with two wickets, while Katherine Fraser and others chipped in to ensure regular breakthroughs.
Complete Team Performance
This victory highlighted Durham Women’s balance across departments, with contributions from both bat and ball. Armitage’s leadership and Levick’s control in the middle overs proved decisive as Durham secured a well-deserved win in a competitive encounter.
