Women’s T20 International cricket has witnessed a dramatic shift in recent years, with batters adopting a far more aggressive approach and consistently producing high-impact innings. The shortest format has evolved into a stage for fearless strokeplay, with several players rewriting records for the fastest half-centuries.

At the forefront of this list is Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, whose explosive knock against Zimbabwe in 2026 set a new benchmark.

    Fatima Sana Tops the List

Fatima Sana registered the fastest fifty in Women’s T20I history, reaching the milestone in just 15 balls during the third T20I against Zimbabwe in Karachi. She remained unbeaten on 62 off 19 deliveries as Pakistan posted 223 in the first innings.

Her innings featured a flurry of boundaries and sixes, underlining her aggressive intent from the outset. Zimbabwe were later bowled out for 90 in 17.1 overs, with Pakistan sealing a comprehensive win.

Early Benchmark Set by Sophie Devine

Before the recent surge in power-hitting, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine had set the tone with an 18-ball fifty against India in 2015. Chasing 125, she struck 70 off 22 balls as New Zealand completed the chase in 12.3 overs.

Her innings came at a time when scoring rates were more conservative, making it one of the most influential knocks in shaping modern T20 batting.

Litchfield and Ghosh Continue the Trend

Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield matched the 18-ball mark with a rapid half-century against West Indies in 2023, scoring an unbeaten 52 from 19 deliveries. Her innings came in a high-scoring contest where Australia posted 212 for 6.

India’s Richa Ghosh also reached a fifty in 18 balls against West Indies in 2024, finishing with 54 off 21 balls. Her innings helped India post 217 for 4 and secure a 60-run victory.

Contributions from Pakistan and Emerging Nations

Pakistan’s Nida Dar produced a 20-ball fifty against South Africa in 2019, scoring 75 from 37 deliveries as her side posted 172 for 5.

Sweden’s Anya Vaidya added to the growing list of explosive innings with a 20-ball fifty against Malta in 2024, finishing unbeaten on 69 from 28 balls as her team chased down 96 in just eight overs.

    Evolution of Women’s T20 Batting

The progression of these records reflects a broader transformation in women’s cricket, with teams embracing attacking strategies and players demonstrating greater confidence in high-pressure situations. From early milestones set by players like Devine to recent record-breaking performances by Fatima Sana, the format continues to push new boundaries.

With batting standards rising across teams, the contest for the fastest T20I fifty remains one of the most exciting aspects of the modern women’s game.
