Bangladesh Women produced a commanding performance in a rain-shortened contest to defeat Netherlands Women by 13 runs in the Scotland Women’s T20I Tri-Series 2026 at the Grange Cricket Club Ground in Edinburgh. Reduced to eight overs per side because of weather interruptions, the match turned into a high-intensity battle where aggressive batting and timely wickets proved decisive. Bangladesh adapted brilliantly to the shortened format, with Dilara Akter leading the charge through a record-breaking half-century that laid the foundation for victory.
Batting first, Bangladesh Women made an explosive start as openers Dilara Akter and Juairiya Ferdous took full advantage of the powerplay restrictions. The pair raced to 42 runs for the opening wicket in just three overs, putting immediate pressure on the Dutch bowlers. Juairiya played a useful cameo of 13 from eight deliveries, striking two boundaries before Iris Zwilling provided the breakthrough, reducing Bangladesh to 42/1.
The innings belonged to Dilara Akter, who produced one of the finest knocks of the tournament. Displaying superb timing and fearless stroke play, she hammered 51 runs from only 26 deliveries, smashing eight fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 196.15. In the process, she reached her fifty in just 22 balls, setting a new record for the fastest half-century by a Bangladesh Women batter in T20 internationals. Her aggressive approach ensured Bangladesh maintained momentum throughout the innings.
Sobhana Mostary provided valuable support with an unbeaten 11 from nine balls, while captain Nigar Sultana added a quick 9 from four deliveries, including two boundaries, before falling to Heather Siegers. The Netherlands eventually removed Dilara in the seventh over through Iris Zwilling, but Bangladesh finished strongly through Sobhana Mostary and Shorna Akter to post an imposing 98/3 from their eight overs.
For the Netherlands, Iris Zwilling was the standout bowler with figures of 1/18 from two overs, including the crucial wicket of Dilara Akter. Heather Siegers picked up 1/17, while Myrthe van den Raad claimed a wicket and bowled with good control. However, the remaining bowlers struggled to contain Bangladesh’s attacking batters.
Chasing 99 in eight overs, Netherlands Women remained firmly in contention during the first half of the innings. Openers Heather Siegers and captain Babette de Leede launched an aggressive assault, adding 52 runs for the opening wicket. Heather scored 21 from 15 balls with three boundaries, while Babette produced a rapid 30 from just 14 deliveries, striking five fours and maintaining a strike rate above 214.
The turning point came when Farina Trisna dismissed both openers in quick succession. Babette’s wicket at 52/2 shifted momentum back towards Bangladesh, and the chase began to lose direction. Frederique Overdijk contributed 9 from four balls before being run out, while Robine Rijke fought hard with 21 from 12 deliveries, including two fours and a six, to keep Dutch hopes alive.
Bangladesh’s bowlers, however, held their nerve during the closing stages. Ritu Moni delivered an excellent spell, taking 2 wickets for just 11 runs in her two overs, including the dismissal of Phoebe Molkenboer for a duck. Farina Trisna finished with 2/20, while Marufa Akter, Rabeya Khan, and Sanjida Akter Meghla maintained pressure with disciplined bowling. Netherlands eventually closed on 85/5 from their eight overs, falling 13 runs short of the target.
The victory was built around Dilara Akter’s sensational record-breaking innings and a disciplined bowling effort that prevented the Netherlands from capitalising on a strong start. Bangladesh’s all-round display ensured they emerged victorious in one of the most entertaining rain-affected matches of the tri-series.
